Immigrate to Canada as a Provincial Nominee

Provincial Nominee Program is a program for workers who have the skills, education, and work experience to contribute to the economy of a specific province or territory. It is also for those who want to live in a particular province and want to become permanent residents of Canada. Each province and territory have its own “streams” and requirements except Quebec which does not have a provincial nominee program.

When applying to immigrate to Canada as a provincial nominee, you must apply in two stages. The first stage is to decide where you want to live in Canada and apply to that province or territory for a nomination. After applying, they will review your application based on their immigration needs and if you plan to live there. The second stage is after a province or territory nominates you, you must apply to the IRCC for permanent residence. They will assess your application based on Canadian immigration law.

To be able to apply as a provincial nominee, you must meet the minimum requirements of one of the province or territory’s non-Express Entry streams and be nominated under that stream. Each province or territory has its own instructions on its website. Canadian province or territory except for Quebec for the Provincial Nominee Program are as follows:

• Nova Scotia

• Ontario

• Prince Edward Island

• Saskatchewan

Note that any false information provided on the application for the permanent resident status may be refused, find you inadmissible, and bar you for up to 5 years from applying for permanent resident status.
