The Canadian government has introduced new instructions for International Experience Canada (IEC) applicants. The new instructions include changes to the application process and the types of jobs that are eligible for IEC participation.

On July 15, 2022, the government of Canada introduced instructions for International Experience Canada applicants. The new instructions clarify that International Experience Canada (IEC) applicants have to acquire valid healthcare insurance for the entire period of their work permit. IEC applicants who could not purchase insurance to cover the entire length of their work permit can present 2 consecutive healthcare insurance policies. At the time of application, IEC applicants are not required to provide proof of healthcare insurance. However, they have to declare that they will purchase one before coming to Canada.

Canadian businesses have long relied on immigrants to help fill gaps in the labour market. In recent years, the Canadian government has introduced a number of programs to make it easier for qualified workers to come to Canada. One of these programs is the International Experience Canada (IEC) program, which allows young people from certain countries to live and work in Canada for up to two years. The IEC program is a popular way for Canadian companies to recruit top talent from around the world.

However, recent changes to the IEC program may make it more difficult for Canadian businesses to attract and retain foreign workers. Under the new rules, IEC applicants are required to acquire valid healthcare insurance for the entire period of their work permit. This could dissuade potential applicants from coming to Canada, as they may be concerned about the cost of health insurance. Canadian businesses that rely on foreign workers may find it more difficult to find qualified employees in the future.
