Alberta to launch new tech program

Alberta to launch new tech program

The government of Alberta announced the launch of the Accelerated Tech Pathway (ATP) under the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) on January 13, 2022.

The new program will contribute to Alberta's Recovery Plan by providing fast-track residency for the province's workforce. High-skilled tech professionals from across Canada and overseas with a job offer who want to work and live in Alberta will be fast-tracked and provided permanent residence in order to solve the labour shortage in Alberta.

Alberta's tech companies are scaling in both growth and financing:

  • 43% of Alberta's technology startups are at the pre-seed or seed stage and 43% have raised at least US $1 million to date

  • 40% of survey respondents have achieved profitability and 38% of companies reported revenue greater than $1 million in the last fiscal year

  • The number of companies with 25 or more employees has increased by 12 percentage points to 25%, between 2018 and 2020

Tyler Shandro, Minister of Labour and Immigration said:

"The faster we can fill these jobs with skilled and qualified workers, the stronger our overall recovery will be – and that helps all Albertans, no matter where they live or what they do. With our low taxes, amazing quality of life and reasonable cost of living, Alberta is already becoming a magnet for people seeking opportunity. We’re taking action to make Alberta even more attractive for tech workers."
