Canada has launched the Atlantic Immigration Program

The government of Canada announced on March 4, 2022 that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will start accepting applications for the permanent Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) from March 6, 2022.

Under the new AIP, eligible applicants with a valid endorsement from an Atlantic Canadian business can submit their applications for permanent residence (PR). This program will allow the Atlantic provinces to invite more skilled newcomers to improve the economic recovery in the region.

Canada welcomed over 12,700 newcomers across the region under the Atlantic Immigration Pilot. The Atlantic Immigration Program helps establish Atlantic Canada as a top destination for skilled workers and international graduates.

The IRCC continues to work closely with employers and provincial governments to ensure a smooth transition between the pilot program and the permanent program. The regulations for the permanent Atlantic Immigration Program took effect on January 1, 2022.

The Atlantic Immigration Program will complement the Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP) of each Atlantic province with at least 6,000 admission spaces available yearly.
