The Immigration Minister Sean Fraser said on February 28, 2022 that about 4,000 applications of Ukrainian citizens have been approved by the government since the conflict with Russia started.
According to the minister, the government of Canada has installed extra resources in offices in Poland, Austria, and Romania to manage the potential influx of applications and now more Ukrainians to come to Canada easily and safely.
In addition, the government also extended work, visitor, and student permits of Ukrainian citizens who currently reside in Canada and cannot return home.
The immigration minister also said that, over the course of the past few days, he has been meeting with members of the Ukrainian Canadian community, the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, and businesses about how to welcome people to safety in Canada and will announce more measures to address the crisis in the days to come.
The minister added that "our goal is to identify the best path forward to allow more Ukrainians to come to Canada easily and safely,".
