Most of the Express Entry candidates immigrate through tech occupations

Express Entry candidates in certain tech careers received the most invitations to apply (ITAs) from 2016 to 2020. There were three occupations in the tech sector which were the most popular ones among the applicants.

The three occupations include software engineers and designers (NOC 2173), information systems analysts and consultants (NOC 2171) and computer programmers and interactive media developers (NOC 2174).

There was significant variation in terms of gender balance since the majority of ITAs were issued to men. Male software engineers and designers received 5,000 ITAs out of 6,665 invitations issued.

Majority of the females were administrative assistants (NOC 1241) and food service supervisors (NOC 6311). Apart from the five occupations listed, there were 10 occupations which made up the majority of invitees as well.

These 10 occupations are as follows:

• Financial auditors and accountant (NOC 1111)

• Administrative officers (NOC 1221)

• Professional occupations in advertising, marketing and public relations (NOC 1123)

• Accounting technicians and bookkeepers (NOC 1311)

• Retail sales supervisors (NOC 6211)

• User support technicians (NOC 2282)

• University professors and lecturers (NOC 4011)

• Database analysts and data administrators (NOC 2172)

• Retail and wholesale trade managers (NOC 0312)

• Professional occupations in business management consulting (NOC 1222)
