Newfoundland and Labrador show its support to Ukraine

The Ministry of Immigration, Population Growth and Skills of Newfoundland and Labrador issued a Ministerial Statement to show its support for Ukraine on March 15, 2022.

The Minister of Immigration for the province, Gerry Byrne, condemned the illegal and unjustified war imposed by Russia and expressed concern about the humanitarian crisis both inside and outside of Ukraine.

Gerry Byrne also stated that the province has created a Ukrainian Family Support Desk within the Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism and is ready to show leadership to welcome Ukrainians.

The minister said that it is their duty of conscience, as global citizens, and as Canadians to offer an open welcome to Ukrainian refugees. Newfoundland and Labrador is already showing the type of leadership that is required.

Also the province has created a Ukrainian Family Support Desk within the Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism because approximately 1,400 of their friends and neighbors identify with Ukrainian roots.
