The government of Canada updated the number of Ukrainian newcomers arriving in Canada under the Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel (CUAET) on April 22, 2022.
According to the latest update, between January 1 and April 17, 2022, 4,753 Ukrainians arrived in Canada by land, and an additional 14,875 arrived by air. Between March 17 and April 19, 2022, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) received 163,747 applications under the CUAET.
The applications of 56,633 Ukrainian nationals have been approved so far. The Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel was created to assist Ukrainians and their families affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine and to enable them to work and study in Canada.
As part of the CUAET, those already in Canada have the option of extending their visitor status, work permit, or study permit so they can continue to live and work in Canada temporarily.
Temporary residence programs are intended to assist those affected by the Russian invasion in seeking temporary shelter in Canada, until it is safe to return to Ukraine.
